How To Check Copyright Application Status
STEP 1:
Visit the Official Website:
Go to the Copyright Office of India’s official site: https://copyright.gov.in
STEP 2:
Click on “Status of Application”:
On the home page, click on “Status of Application” (found on the left-hand menu or main page).
STEP 3:
Enter Application Details:
- Enter the Diary Number (received after filing the copyright application).
STEP 4:
Click “View Status”:
After entering the details, click the “View Status” button.
The system will show the current status:
Status In Detail
Work Awaited
The submitted application is incomplete as the actual creative work is yet to be received.
Processing will begin only after the required work is submitted by the applicant.
Waiting
The application has been accepted with payment and is in the mandatory 30-day waiting period. This is as per Section 45 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
Documents Not Received / Formality Check Failed
Payment is completed, but supporting documents or work have not been submitted.
The application cannot proceed until the missing items are received.
Abandoned
The application is considered abandoned due to no response to discrepancy notices or non-submission of work. This results in termination of the application process.
Scrutiny
The application and accompanying documents are under formal examination by the Copyright Office. They are checked for correctness, completeness, and compliance with rules.
Re-Scrutiny
The application has been resubmitted or modified after initial scrutiny and is under review again. The Registrar rechecks for compliance with objections previously raised.
Pending for Hearing
Objections have been raised, and the application is awaiting a scheduled hearing.
No final decision will be made until the hearing is completed.
Hearing
The hearing is conducted to resolve objections, often involving clarifications from the applicant. A final decision is made based on the applicant's submissions during or after the hearing.
Sub-Judice
The application is on hold due to ongoing legal proceedings or a court case.
It will remain pending until the competent court delivers its verdict.
Registered
The application has been approved, and the Registration Certificate (ROC) has been generated. The copyright is now officially granted and recorded.
